A passion for Rotterdam

Like many Rotterdammers, I carry the city on the Maas close to my heart. Its cosmopolitan atmosphere, constant transformation and distinctly unconventional character make Rotterdam a place that continues to inspire me to draw.

Technique

My drawings are characterised by strong contrasts, repeating patterns, sharp angles and deep black areas filled with detail. I work mainly in black, white and grey because these tones bring the essence of architecture and urban landscapes to the foreground.

When drawing city scenes, I constantly decide what truly defines a building or place and what can be left out. The result is a collection of distinctive Rotterdam posters and art prints that capture the atmosphere of the city in a graphic and timeless way.

My work is created digitally on a drawing screen, allowing me to work with precision while keeping the process intuitive. The final prints retain crisp lines and fine detail, making them suitable for both modern and classic interiors.

Background

I studied Illustration at Willem de Kooning Academy and completed a Bachelor's degree in Media & Culture and a Master's degree in Film Studies at the University of Amsterdam. I then started working independently as a visual artist under Govart.nl.

Over the years I have worked for a wide range of clients, often in architecture, urban development and visual communication. My professional background also includes more than ten years of experience as a senior visual designer and art director, alongside my independent work as an illustrator and artist.
