Rotterdam from Kleinpolderplein
Every time you enter Rotterdam from the A13 via the flyover of Kleinpolderplein, you have one of the most beautiful views of the city skyline. Every time a sense of pride goes through me when I see this cityscape.

The Maas
Mural of the map of Rotterdam. The graphic work is composed of black areas that represent the water and the built-up blocks. This creates an interesting rhythm and you automatically see where the streets run.

Neste
Commissioned by engineering firm Benk Projects, I visited the Neste refinery and captured the factory's most important installation in this painting. It is a beautiful installation where renewable diesel is produced with a tangle of countless pipes and constructions. The work was a gift from Benk to Neste and hangs framed in a prominent place in the refinery's office.

Maasvlakte II
Container ships are getting bigger and bigger. The Second Maasvlakte was built to load and unload these new ships. The giant transhipment cranes of RWG and others are out of all proportion.

Rotterdam from Zestienhoven
Above the treetops around Rotterdam The Hage Airport, the office buildings on the Weena shoot up into the sky. From this point, the skyscrapers on the Kop van Zuid seem closer than they actually are.

From the Burgermeester van Walsumweg we look over the Cube Houses of Piet Blom towards the Blaak, the Oude Haven, the Wijnhaven and in the background the Wilhelmina Pier.

Shell Pernis
The immense chimneys, flare towers and refinery towers of Shell Pernis form a real forest. Between the stakes and smoke plumes we see the contours of Hoogvliet.

ExxonMobil I
The A15 through the Botlek offers beautiful views of the oil refineries of ExxonMobil, among others. To a layman, the refinery towers are an incomprehensible tangle of pipes and steel constructions.

Delfshaven
It is always difficult to imagine what the centre of Rotterdam looked like before the bombing. Delfshaven is perhaps the closest to what the pre-war city centre once was.

Although the Erasmus Bridge now dominates the image of contemporary Rotterdam, the Hef or Koninginnebrug is still the structure that conveys the tough and robust side of Rotterdam and its ports.
